Overview of Banana Split Dessert

My Taste Test

In my opinion, Breyers is a nice option for making smoothies and milkshakes at home because it generally costs less than the premium ice creams such as Haagen Dazs or regional brands that manufacture smaller batches.

I would put Breyers in a mid-range category, along with Tillamook, and store brands such as Publix. By comparison, the texture is generally not as creamy or thick as the other brands. With the exception of the strawberry, I feel that the flavors from Breyers frozen dairy dessert is not as full. When I have the option, I choose ice cream over frozen dairy dessert.

It’s Not Ice Cream

One issue, in my opinion, is this product is not as creamy as samples from Tillamook. That’s because this product is not ice cream. Note the label is “frozen dairy dessert.”

The way I understand it, the main difference is that ice cream is made with milk solids or milk fat. And while milk may be one of the ingredients in a frozen dairy dessert, these products include vegetable or another type of oil (e.g., palm oil).

As you can see below, the Breyers Banana Split flavor is made with skim milk and coconut oil.
