As shown above, there are many common ingredients across each flavor of Gatorade. The major differences are color.
Natural Flavor
Each drink contains a natural flavor without insight into the specific source of the flavor.
Many food and beverage manufacturers use the generic “natural flavor” label, which is approved by the FDA for an essential oil, oleoresin, essence or extractive, protein hydrolysate, distillate, or product which contains flavoring constituents derived from spice, fruit or fruit juice, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible yeast, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or similar plant material, meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy products whose significant function in food is flavoring rather than nutritional.
In April 2025, the FDA announced measures to phase out petroleum-based synthetic food dyes, including FD&C Red No. 40, FD&C Green No. 3, FD&C Yellow No. 5, FD&C Yellow No. 6, FD&C Blue No. 1, and FD&C Blue No. 2. Manufacturers have until the end of 2026 to remove the dye (and six other synthetic dyes) from foods and beverages.
