Chick-fil-A Hash Browns, yogurt parfait, and fruit cup.

Before your next breakfast at Chick-fil-A fast food restaurant, review this reference guide to review the list of nutrition and ingredients in the short list of gluten free breakfast menu items.

Quick Overview

Chick-fil-A fast-food chain is not operated as a gluten free restaurant environment.

Because food is prepared in a shared kitchen area, there is no guarantee that any Chick-fil-A menu item is entirely free of gluten. Moreover, supplier ingredients may vary by location.

Chick-fil-A food may not be considered gluten-free for individuals with celiac disease or those who have a severe gluten sensitivity. Preparation areas in a fast food kitchen are limited, and there is a risk of cross-contamination with other foods and allergens.

Although Hash Browns are made without wheat, they contain more than just potatoes. Here is the list of ingredients in Chick-fil-A hash brown breakfast bites.

Hash Brown Scramble Bowls are made-fresh daily with crispy hash browns, scrambled eggs, a blend of Monterey Jack and cheddar cheeses, and topped with jalapeno salsa.

Other Gluten-Free Items

In addition to the gluten-free breakfast options, Chick-fil-A has a number of other gluten-free options, including french fries, frozen desserts, and grilled chicken.

Waffle Fries

Although not listed on the formal breakfast menu, guests on a gluten-free diet may consider ordering waffle potato fries.

Chick-fil-A’s waffle fries are made without any of the major food allergens. However, the recipe does contain pea protein.

Grilled Nuggets

Another possible option (albeit not on the breakfast menu) is grilled chicken nuggets. Unlike the classic fried Chick-fil-A Nuggets, the marinated boneless grilled chicken is not made with wheat.

Avoid the breakfast filet, which is breaded and fried.

Individuals with a gluten intolerance or other food allergy should inform the manager before ordering.

Overview of Food Allergens

The most common allergens and allergic reactions are related to nine major food groups: eggs, fish, milk, peanuts, sesame, shellfish, soybeans, tree nuts, and wheat. Notice gluten is not a major allergen. Federal regulations do not require manufacturers and restaurants to declare gluten (although many restaurants publish a list voluntarily).

Moreover, food items are not tested prior to service. Yet, meals are prepared in a common area. To that end, individuals with gluten sensitivities need to understand the risk of cross contamination.

Cross Contact

Fast food restaurants generally have limited space for preparing food. Accordingly, menu items are often cooked on shared equipment.

Without a dedicated fryer, the same oil and fryer are used to cook different foods, including items that contain wheat, barley, or rye. Due to the risk of cross-contamination, even foods that are not made with allergens may still come in contact with gluten.

There is no guarantee that any Chick-fil-A menu item is 100% free of allergens.
