Calories and Nutrition Facts
Calories in Bacon Burger
We have noticed a discrepancy with the calories reported on the Five Guys website. It states 920 Calories in the Bacon Burger.
When we check the nutrition table provided by the restaurant, the sum of the calories listed for each component of the burger (bacon, patties, and bun) do total 924. However, when calculating the calories based on the weight of each macronutrient (fat, carbs, and protein), we calculate approximately 780 total calories.
Let me show you the data we used and our calculations.
Lower Calories Based on Nutrition Facts Table
Please refer to the image below. The top half of the image shows a screen shot taken from the Nutrition & Allergen Information file published by Five Guys (we downloaded the document June 14, 2024).
The sum of calories in two burger patties, bacon, and bun total 924 calories. That is in line with the 920 total calories stated on Five Guys menu.
Then I checked the same file for total calories based on the quantity of each macronutrient (fat, carbs, protein). Using this standard method, there are 778 total calories in the burger.
Our calculations are shown in the bottom half of the image below. Here is the breakout of calories by nutrient.
- Fat: 450 calories
- Carbs: 156 calories
- Protein: 172 calories
- Total: 778 Calories
To wrap up, it’s unclear whether the total calories published on the menu are incorrect or the quantity of macronutrients per serving should be increased.
At Nutrition & Ingredients, we aim to dig into the details and learn more about what’s in the food Americans consume. This is one small example why things are not always as they seem.
To that end, please remember to confirm nutrition facts directly with the restaurant and discuss dietary or health concerns with your physician.
Nutrition Facts
Here are the nutrition facts as shown in the publicly-available document provided by Five Guys. However, we adjusted the total calories to show 780+ for the reasons described above.
