Jalapeno Corn Chips Ingredients and Allergens

Ingredients

There are three main ingredients in the Jalapeno corn chips: Corn, Corn Oil, and Spicy Jalapeno Seasoning.

Jalapeno Seasoning

Ingredients:Maltodextrin (made from corn), Salt, Monosodium Glutamate, Whey, Dextrose, Spices, Natural Flavors, Onion Powder, Sodium Diacetate, Sugar, Sour Cream (cultured cream, skim milk), Modified Corn Starch, Sunflower Oil, Canola Oil, Corn Syrup Solids, Garlic Powder, Jalapeno Peppers, and Artificial Flavor.

What is Maltodextrin?

Maltodextrin is a class of processed polysaccharides (which are carbohydrates) derived from rice, wheat, corn or potato starch.  The manufactured powder is used in a variety of foods to improve flavor, as a thickener, and to increase shelf life.

As a thickening agent, you will find maltodextrin in puddings, frostings, pastries, candies, sauces, salad dressings, and other packaged or processed foods.

It also has a slightly sweet flavor and is a simple carbohydrate, which makes it easily digested.  In this regard, it frequently used in sports and energy drinks.

Because Maltodextrin absorbs fat, it is a useful ingredient in fried foods.  It enhances flavor, increases the crispness, and helps to retain a favorable color.

Maltoextrin is listed as an ingredient in the Jalapeno Seasoning used to flavor these corn chips. Other packaged food snacks and fast food menu items that contain maltodextrin include:

Allergens

The corn chips are made with ingredients that contain milk.
