Total Sugars

There are a total of 44 grams of sugar in one serving of Haagen-Dazs mango sorbet. Of that, 40 grams are added sugars. That is high.

Added Sugars

The reason it’s encouraged to recognize the amount of added sugars in foods is because these additives provide calories without other important nutrients such as protein, fats, or fiber.

As such, the U.S. FDA suggests consuming no more than 50 grams of added sugars daily (based on a daily diet of 2,000 calories).

With that in mind, take note that one serving (2/3 cup) of the mango sorbet has 160 calories from added sugar. That’s 80% of the FDA-recommended daily value.

Note: Added sugars refer to sugars added in a recipe, which are distinct from sugars found naturally in foods such as dairy. Examples of added sugars include table sugar, syrups, and concentrated fruit.

Haagen-Dazs Pints Are Gone

Do you remember ever saying you’re going to get a pint of ice cream? Well, Haagen-Dazs has changed that because it’s “pint-sized” container is no longer a pint.

The first time I noticed the change was at the supermarket in early 2024. The company had reduced the size of its small containers to only 14 ounces.

One 14 fl oz container has about 2.5 servings. At 200 calories per serving, there are approximately 500 calories per container.

Mango Sorbet Ingredients and Allergens

  • Added sugars include sugar, mango puree, and lemon juice concentrate.

There are only eight ingredients in the Mango Sorbet made by Haagen-Dazs. Here is the list of ingredients.

Ingredients

Water, Sugar, Mango Puree, Natural Flavor, Carrot Juice Concentrate (color), Lemon Juice Concentrate, Pumpkin Juice Concentrate (color), and Pectin.

Check the Ingredients in Haagen-Dazs Vanilla Ice Cream.

Pectin is found in the skin and core of fruits such as apples, grapes, and citrus fruits. It’s a soluble fiber, a plant-based complex starch (polysaccharide), used by food manufacturers to thicken and stabilize foods.

One analogy is to think of pectin as a type of glue or cement that traps liquids in a recipe. When heated, it first traps the liquids then turns into a gel-like substance as it cools.

In addition to sorbet pectin is also used in jams, jellies, and other processed food products.

Allergens

The FDA states the most common food allergies are eggs, fish, milk, peanuts, sesame, shellfish, soy, tree nuts, and wheat.

The mango sorbet recipe does not include any of these food allergens.
