Nutrition Guide Overview

We maintain a massive database of nutritional information on the most popular fast food joints in the U.S. Our team analyzes the data to calculate information and create reports that are more detailed than the standard nutrition facts label.

We created this Taco Bell menu guide for general informational purposes. We aim to provide useful information, analysis, and charts to help you make informed decisions about which food you eat.

Discuss your health and wellness goals with your physician, then use this guide as an informational resource to make a nutritious choice.

Informational Data Tables

Readers use our nutrition guides and reports to understand the differences between foods on a single menu and to compare the nutrition of similar foods at competing restaurants.

This report focuses on the carbohydrates in burritos, tacos, and other dishes available at Taco Bell. Data was sourced directly from the restaurant.

Unless otherwise noted, each table contains four sections:

  1. Menu Item. For each category, menu items are listed in order of least to most grams of carbs per serving.
  2. Total Carbs. The second column lists total grams of carbohydrates per serving.
  3. Carb Calories. The third column lists the number of calories derived from carbohydrates per serving.
  4. % of Total Calories. Refer to the final column of each table for the proportion of total calories derived from carbohydrates.

Net Carbs

Taco Bell is a great source of information as the restaurant offers a high degree of transparency with detailed information about nutrition facts, allergens, and ingredients for every menu item.

However, there is no information about sugar alcohols. As a result, the best calculation we have for net carbs is Total Carbohydrates – Total Dietary Fiber = Net Carbs. Reference to Net Carbs in this guide is based on that formula.

Choosing the Best Low Carb Taco Meal

As you decide which of these tacos is your best option, consider the following points.

  • High Proportion of Total Calories from Fat. Made with seasoned beef, lettuce, and cheese, the Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Taco has the least amount of carbohydrates per serving.
  • However, of all the tacos on the menu, this taco (and the Supreme version) has the highest percentage of total calories from dietary fat.
  • One serving contains 10g fat, 48g carbs, and 8g protein. Over half of the total 170 calories is derived from total fats (which includes 4g saturated fat).
  • Saturated Fat. Although the Crunchy Taco Supreme® is one of menu items with the least amount of total carbs, it has a higher proportion of saturated fat.
  • One serving contains 5g of saturated fat. At a 25% daily value, that is considered high (based on a 2,000 calorie diet).
  • Consider ordering the Soft Chicken Taco instead. Although the net carbs are slightly higher, it has half the amount of saturated fat.

CONSIDER OTHER NUTRIENTS WHEN CREATING YOUR MEAL PLAN

  • Soft Chicken Taco has 15g Net Carbs, 2.5g saturated fat (13% DV)
  • Crunchy Taco Supreme has 12g Net Carbs, 5g saturated fat (25% DV)
  • look for meals with less saturated fat and more healthy fats from foods such as avocado and beans

Burritos

Choose from a variety of burritos, including the popular Black Bean Grilled Cheese Burrito, Beefy 5-Layer Burrito, or one of the newer menu items, the Cantina Chicken Burrito.

The Cantina Chicken Burrito is made to order with slow-roasted chicken, avocado ranch sauce, creamy chipotle sauce, lettuce, shredded purple cabbage, pico de gallo, and cheddar cheese. It’s served on a warm, grilled flour tortilla.

The following table includes the total carbs, calories from carbohydrates, and percentage of total calories per serving for burritos available at the Taco Bell fast-food chain.

High Calorie Burritos

Total calories in the burrito options at Taco Bell range from a low of 360 in the Bean Burrito to a high of 720 in the Grilled Cheese Burrito. Avoid consuming a high-calorie meal with a careful choice of burritos.

As mentioned above, the Bean Burrito has the fewest calories on the Burrito menu. Given that it lands in the middle in the list when ranked by total carbohydrates per serving, it may not appear to be as keto-friendly as other options.

However, the Bean Burrito has 8g of fiber, one of the highest on this burrito menu.

  • Bean Burrito. This vegetarian burrito has 54g total carbs, 8g of fiber (46g net carbs), and the fewest total calories. However, be mindful that one serving has 1,080mg sodium (47% of the recommended daily limit).
  • Highest Fat. The Grilled Cheese Burrito is packed with seasoned beef, seasoned rice, nacho cheese sauce, reduced-fat sour cream, a three-cheese blend, chipotle sauce, and fiesta strips. One serving delivers 720 calories, half of which are derived from fat.

Sodium in Fast Food Burritos

In addition to the total calories and dietary fat per serving, remember that fast food typically contains a high amount of sodium. Taco Bell is no exception.

The American Heart Association recommends limiting total daily sodium intake to less than 2,300 milligrams (based on a 2,000 calorie diet). Moreover, AHA goes on to state that an ideal sodium intake might be closer to 1,500 milligrams, but individual needs vary.

  • The Most Sodium. Once again, we highlight one of the Grilled Cheese Burrito options. Selecting Steak for your protein puts the burrito at the top of the list in terms of sodium content.
  • With 1,520 milligrams of sodium per serving, this one burrito has over 60% of the FDA-recommended daily limit. The Chicken option is in line with 1,510mg of sodium.
  • The Grilled Cheese Steak Burrito is also one of three burritos that have 700 or more total calories per serving.

For a lower sodium, low-carb option, you may want to skip the Taco Bell burritos and check out the vegetarian Cheesy Roll Up or a Black Bean Chalupa on the Specialty Menu.

Quesadillas

Depending on your location, the Taco Bell Quesadilla menu includes quesadillas made with seasoned steak, chicken, or a three cheese blend. It’s topped with a creamy jalapeño sauce or a chipotle sauce, then folded into a soft tortilla shell.

Nachos

The popular Loaded Beef Nachos is served with crispy tortilla chips, a special Nacho Cheese sauce, and seasoned beef. But, like all orders at Taco Bell, the nachos are customizable.

Based on your personal preference, swap the beef Nachos for a BellGrande with steak or chicken. Or, double down with extra cheese or an extra serving of ground beef.

What’s on a Nachos BellGrande

A standard Nachos BellGrande order is topped with nacho cheese sauce, reduced-fat sour cream, diced tomatoes, and refried beans.

In addition, the restaurant offers a long list of additional toppings. Make it your ultimate dish with spicy ranch, hot sauce, guacamole, seasoned rice, onions, or red sauce.

For customers seeking a low-carb option, here is quick reference table listing the total carbs, calories derived from carbs, and carb calories as a percentage of total calories for each nacho dish (excluding additional topping choices).

As mentioned above, Taco Bell’s menu is flexible. There is a long list of add-ons from which to choose. With a little creativity, it can be easy to order keto-friendly options.

If your favorite meal is the popular Beefy 5-Layer Burrito, unroll the flour tortilla and cut it in half, for a lower-carb meal.

Bowls and Specialties

A Cheesy Roll Up, Chicken Flatbread, or Power Bowl is also worth considering when you have a craving for Mexican food and searching for Keto options.

You may want to make some substitutions to fit your dietary goals. The good news is that Taco Bell makes it easy to customize your meal.

Simply add extra meat or sausage crumbles to a Black Bean Crunchwrap. Or go all-in and request a Chalupa Supreme with a double order of the marinated beef.

Sides and Treats

Depending on your personal dietary needs, the side dishes and treats may not be a good first choice.

One side order of black beans contains only 7 grams of carbohydrates, but the carbs contribute over half of the total calories per serving.

Another factor to consider is the composition of carbs.

Two Cinnabon Delights, for example, have 15g total carbs. That includes 9 grams of total sugars, all of which are added sugars. There is less than one gram of fiber per serving.

Here is a data table listing carbs in each of the side dishes and sweet treats at Taco Bell.

Breakfast

Taco Bell offers a broad selection of Mexican-inspired dishes for breakfast.

Choose from a cheesy burrito filled with scrambled eggs, nacho cheese sauce, and bacon or a Breakfast Crunchwrap made with egg, sausage patty, and hash brown potatoes. Upgrade with extra sausage crumbles, bacon, or guacamole, among other available add-ons.

While a few of these breakfast meals may satisfy your appetite, be sure to check the nutrition labels and select a healthy option.

Depending on your local restaurant, breakfast is generally served until 10:30 am or 10:45 am.

Depending on individual health goals and the nutrition advice from a physician, compare the amount of carbs in each breakfast dish.

Rather than doubling down on the extra meat and cheese add-ons, a healthier option may be the guacamole, Fresco salsa, or reduced-fat sour cream.
