Calories and Nutrition Facts

Nutrition facts are based on a single serving. Each serving contains

Calories

There are 130 calories in two cookies.  Half of the total calories are derived from carbohydrates.  Fat contributes another 46%, and the remaining 4% is from protein.

  • Fat: 60 calories
  • Carbs: 65 calories
  • Protein: 5 calories
  • Total: 130 calories per serving

The caloric breakout by nutrient is a rounded estimate based on the nutrition facts label printed on the package of Pepperidge Farm cookies.

Total Sugars

One serving is measured as two cookies, or about 26 grams. There are 9 grams of total sugars in one serving. That’s a fairly high amount for two cookies, in my opinion. It’s just under 20% of the total daily value of added sugars recommended by the FDA.

Moreover, all nine grams are added sugars. Keep in mind that the FDA recommends fewer than 10% of total calories are derived from added sugars. Two of these cookies would account for about 18% of the daily value (based on a 2,000 calorie diet).

Ingredients and Allergens

Ingredients

Enriched Wheat Flour, Sugar, Vegetable Oils (Palm Kernel, Palm and/or Soybean and Hydrogenated Soybean), Milk Chocolate, Eggs, Cornstarch, Salt, Natural Flavor, Baking Soda, Soy Lecithin, Milkfat, Nonfat Milk.

  • The Wheat Flour is enriched with niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, and folic acid.
  • Milk Chocolate is made with sugar, cocoa butter, whole milk, chocolate processed with alkali, chocolate, nonfat milk, soy lecithin, and vanilla extract.
  • Did you notice there are no marshmallows listed in the ingredients? These cookies are “marshmallow-flavored”. Well, marshmallows are made with gelatin (generally obtained from animal bones) so perhaps I prefer a flavoring over the real thing.

What is Enriched Flour?

During the production of certain foods such as breads and other baked goods, certain minerals and natural vitamins are stripped away to improve texture or shelf life. For example, the bran and the germ are extracted from the wheat. In an effort to improve the nutritional value, food producers add back vitamins and minerals.

Accordingly, Enriched Flour typically contains Thiamine Mononitrate (B1), Riboflavin (B2), Niacin (B3), and Folic Acid (B9).

Foods that typically contain Enriched Flour include bread, brownies, cake, cookies, crackers, donuts, pasta, and pizza.

Allergens

The Milano Toasted Marshmallow cookies are made with ingredients that contain egg, milk, soy, and wheat.
