A Quick History of Taco Bell
The origin of Taco Bell began in 1951 when its founder Glen Bell created a version of the crunchy taco.
The first Taco Bell restaurant was opened in Downey, California in 1962. Within only five years, the 100th Taco Bell was opened. By 1970, the company went public and was acquired by PepsiCo in 1978.
PepsiCo spun off some of its business lines in 1997 to form Tricon Global Restaurants. Now known as Yum! Brands, Inc., it continues to operate the Taco Bell chain.
